Tonights Dinner Decided From

Tonight we had shrimp tacos from Ali at Gimme Some Oven. These vibrant tacos with smoky sauce are going to be a hit for your next taco Tuesday. A little bit lighter than some of more traditional tacos. With some minor adjustments you can really make the most out of this recipe.
When picking out your shrimp for these tacos I’m sure you will have plenty of options. Of course the fresher shrimp you can get the better. However, frozen shrimp will work just fine if thats what you prefer. One mistake I have made before though is buying shrimp that are too large. The shrimp were extra large gulf shrimp. The taste will all be the same, but for me a few medium sized shrimp that will fit about 4 shrimp to a taco would be perfect.
To really get that perfectly seasoned bite you might need to make some adjustments with the seasoning. The original recipe calls for 2 to 3 tablespoons of taco seasoning and a link is provided for here homemade version. I definitely add both the crushed red pepper as well as a dash or two of cayenne pepper. Feel free to also add fresh garlic when cooking the shrimp.
I always make these tacos with the included recipe for cilantro lime slaw as well. You probably won’t need to use the entire bag of slaw. Depending on how spicy you wish the slaw to be you can add jalapeno or serrano as suggested. If I don’t have any peppers on hand, I will sometimes add a few drops of one my favorite hot sauces.
If you stopped here, these tacos are still really good. But try to plan ahead to make sure you have time for the chipotle crema sauce to get the most out of this vibrant smoky taco recipe. The original recipe calls for either 1 chili in adobo sauce or ½ teaspoon of chipotle powder. If you are going to take the time to make it I wouldn’t take the shortcut and use the chipotle powder. For a more rounded and smoky flavor definitely use the chili in adobo sauce. I usually use 1 chili and then add about a tbsp of extra sauce but you could use as many chilis as you want. Lastly serve the tacos with fresh limes, cilantro and your favorite kind of tortilla.
