Tonights Dinner Decided From

This week I have been craving some Hawaiian Bros, so I decided to see if I could find a recipe for some Hawaiian chicken. There are several teriyaki and huli huli recipes out there but this recipe caught my eye, and looked absolutely delicious. So this week I made Teriyaki Chicken from Christy Denney from The Girl who ate everything. This recipe comes together quickly for an easy weeknight meal has tons of Hawaiian flavors.
The first step to make this delicious recipe is to decide if you are going to use chicken thighs or chicken breasts. Normally I will substitute chicken breast if I don’t think it will take away from the original recipe and without sacrificing flavor. However on this recipe, I strongly suggest sticking with the chicken thighs. These are more traditional and will give you a much better flavor.
To make the marinade, make sure you are using good quality soy sauce like this one from whole foods. Prior to placing the chicken in the marinade make sure you set half of it aside. You won’t be able to use the marinade again later for the sauce once you add the raw chicken to it. The recipe suggests you could marinade the chicken for as little as 15 minutes, but I would really try to plan ahead and marinade the chicken overnight. Once you are ready to cook, make sure you take your time to really pat the chicken dry otherwise your chicken is going to be swimming on the marinade.
Once the chicken is cooked through, the recipe calls for you to add back some reserved marinade to the pan. Make sure you The recipe calls for some caution about potentially burning the sauce, but I found that my sauce as actually a little too watery so I added about 1 tablespoon of honey and had to cook the chicken and the sauce for a few minutes instead of the recommended 30 seconds. This made the chicken perfectly sticky.
This recipe for Teriyaki chicken is the perfect blend of savory and sweet. If you don’t want it to be too sweet, you could substitute the brown sugar out for honey as suggested. However even though I normally can’t stand sweet recipes, I still really liked this quick and easy recipe and I think you will to. To really take this recipe to the next level I recommend you serve the chicken with Authentic Hawaiian Macaroni Salad from Erica Walker at Favorite Family Recipes.
